Did you know that as a result of this deal, using gas central heating and gas to cook with could come to an end in as little as 15 years’ time?
First to go will most likely be gas cookers, according to the Grantham Research for Climate Change.
Whilst this isn’t anything to be panicked about now, it may mean that manufacturers could just stop making cookers. And parts will then be harder to find in the event of a breakdown.
So, for landlords who own a property with a gas cooker, you may need to think about simply replacing it with an electric version if you are undertaking any renovation, or if it’s starting to get a little bit old and worn.
The same could also be true for homes with gas central heating. Don’t rush out now, but if your heating system does need refurbishing, then it’s a wise time to switch to electric to potentially save time and money down the line.
The article also predicted that houses with gas appliances or gas central heating may well be worth less in the future, particularly if the Government goes ahead with these plans as part of its commitment to the deal.
So it looks the use of gas in the UK may well be coming to an end. If you rent out one of the 23 million homes that uses gas, it’s probably going to affect you in the future.
Although plans are still very much up in the air, nothing has yet been finalised, it’s one to have in the back of your mind when it comes to refurbishment or replacement.
Yet another upheaval to test landlords at the end of a year in which there have been so many changes and challenges!
